Doors and gates
« on: November 21, 2012, 12:26:43 PM »
I got a question and a comment about use of allies to get through locked doors and thought I'd write a short summary of the doors in Dweller:

Door
Secret door. Shown as a normal wall until found
Locked door. Requires skeleton key ()
Iron gate. Can be seen through.
Iron door. Opened by pressureplate.
Skull gate. Requires golden key ()
Locked gate. Can be seen through. Requires skeleton key

Ways of opening locked doors, other than by use of a key:
  • Using Thieves' Tools () to pick the lock
  • Using a heavy weapon to bash down the door
  • Using clever positioning to get an ally to bash down the door
  • Using clever positioning to get a monster to bash down the door

And if you don't have any means of getting passed a locked door you might want to try teleporting and hoping you're in luck! :-)

Can you put an extra Golden key(s) inside the GK lair -more then once i have been cut off from the door i came into by summoned mobs and had to "chicken" out and teleport back to the surface. it would be nice to have the strategic option to open another door so you could attack them form one way instead of always hacking away at the mob -this goes double for the ranger as its effectiveness is most compromised by close combat.

Actually the Ranger has easiest time in GK's lair because he moves and shoots so fast
that the GK and other enemies can't out-spam him with summoning. You just have to
bring some light-radius gear or use potions of clairvoyance to extend your vision range.
Besides, he's got a guaranteed ally, and its the strongest one in-game when it comes
to Attack/Speed combo, so it's like 2 powerfull fast-hitting characters in one.

As for the original topic:
- Locked gates can only be unlocked with a key or lockpicks.
- Enemies can also be lured into trashing closed doors!

Aha, one more thing - Locked doors can also be destroyed by pushing
stuff (movable blocks, furniture) into them. Fun option when you can't
use heavy weapons.

Crap....is the iron door openable by pressure plate alone ??!?  If so, I may be hooped....so far, two floors in my dungeon have had, I sh@t you not, steel dart traps right in front of the blasted doors!  So, of course, I've disarmed the plates....not realizing that I couldn't just unlock them!  Please tell me it ain't so....   :'(

Alas, the pressure plate operates both the darts and the steel doors.
And it's the only way to open these doors. You might get lucky with
teleport to get to the other side tho.
