Pressure plates and tiled floor.
« on: August 28, 2012, 09:09:23 AM »
Pressure plates use the same tile graphics as a floor tile
called "tiled floor". This leads to many rooms having the
pressure plates instead of decorative "tiled floor" tiles.

Graphics wise, they look the same, but I find it to be highly
confusing (especially to newcomers) if going thru certain
rooms (including most of the Halls of the Goblin King), one
constantly gets a message reading "You're standing on
pressure plate" (this should read: "You're standing on a
pressure plate", btw). This, and pressure plates don't
allow drops to be placed on them when an enemy dies.

Even more confusing - I remember those 2 being separate
entries in the mapper, and now when I'm checking the rooms
using those 2, they all show me tile index 51.

Could you sort that out, Bjorn?

Like, add some new gfx dedicated to the pressure plate only
(maybe a circular one?), having it overlay on the default floor
tile of the room, while keeping the "tiled floor" one unchanged.
This and maybe use orange tile reading "pressure plate" in
the mapper (not really needed if it changes its shape tho).
If you remember the sprites from my avatar, know that you're awesome!

I'd like to see the plates used for newer traps other than the darts... like the concept is there and from time to time you do run into a functioning dart trap... but what about flame traps and poison traps?  cyclone traps? dragons breath? ok you get the picture.  the pressure plate is a great concept as a trigger mechanism but 9 times out of ten when I step on one I'n not worried that anything is going to happen even if i see the dart holes.  the special message attached to them as well is kinda confusing too.  I would like to see the plates be all they can be in the future.
When in doubt.  Scroll of Recall

I have changed to a dedicated graphics tile for the tiled floor. I have also made the pressure plates and dart traps hidden from the start. I like the idea of different kinds of uses for pressure plates, it could be anything from unlocking doors/gates behind which a swarm of monsters are waiting to filling a room with lava or any of the traps you suggest Ziz!
