I haven't payed much attention to this earlier, but apparently
attepting to summon an ally when the top-left neighbouring
tile (in relation to the player) is occupied, will always fail.

Interestingly enough, it will fail if only this one tile is blocked.
There seems to be some kind of a problem with "search for
free tiles" algorithm which normally works properly when
more tiles around the player are occupied (tight corridors,
enemies around, etc.).

Umm, what?! I tried to reproduce the scenario but the Bag of Monsters work. Is it this setup you mean?

I've jumped to conclusions too quickly. It just so happened that
I had a wall positioned like in Your picture, but this wasn't the
cause for this problem.

I've found the cause tho.

The dog won't spawn on a floor type different than the regular
one. (this includes water, tiles with grills (called "stone floor",
used traps, lava, secret doors, etc. but not normal open doors).

Yes, that sounds more plausible. I will have to review what cells are marked as non-spawn points. It probably has to be adjusted.

Just realised this is also why Summoning Traps very rarely work
if they're clustered with other traps - there's simply no valid cells
around for them to work on (create a creature).
