Interesting suggestions!
« on: August 08, 2012, 11:01:55 PM »
Well to my I would like to maybe be could add but
is only in the case of the Warrior is the most use
when game for example would be the first idea:1)
when for example you you take off the helmet and
do not use it and leave the inventory and look at
your character look but without a helmet. It is giving the same game for real life. 2 serious
example e.g. that you change the sword has the
Warrior and you put an axe see the axe in your
hand and not a sword. It is to give realism. Also
would be very good this is another idea apart from
all the other very good given that for example you put the heavenly armor or any different armor and
that your character you see reflected the armor
from your inventory on the character a good
example with their boots iron are as they are also
the helmets. Another suggestion that would be
good when the Warrior fence to hit an enemy see that it moves it the hand that gives an effect as it is
hitting. It is the movement of the hand. Those are
my ideas that could add. Another thing that you
might have already said but I say it returned to
place new game you can choose the race e.g. dwarf
GNOME Elf and then the class example Archer Mage Warrior. That you think?

What you are suggesting would be cool, but it would also require quite a bit of work graphics wise. I do not have a full time graphics artist that does all the graphics for Dweller.

In that case, it would be a good idea to look for a good graphics artist. I think that it's a pretty cool idea, serious, however, I see some negative points there...
For example, the game would be much heavier if we have to do lots of grafics and put into the game data. Besides, I think it would be slower and would use more RAM. Keep in mind that Dweller is developed for mobile devices, and many of those phones are not very powerful in terms of RAM or CPU.

I guess Björn should decide if it's worth to get a full time graphics artist to do that, since it could worsen the game's performance...

It would require a bit more memory as I would need more graphics and it would require quite a bit of coding to stitch together the final image, but performance would not be impacted much. Even if the character would be made up from 10 different small parts it would all be rendered into a single image and then cached.

Then... the only thing that really matters is that we haven't a full time graphics artist? Well, you are the coder, if you say that it should be true. However, I remember when I played Dweller in my HTC Wildfire and it was really slow (now I have a Nexus One) I was thinking about this kind of devices.

In conclusion: a graphics artist is needed.

Meh, its a roguelike after all! The graphics are already really
fancy for one of those. And yeah, I wouldn't like to see any
performance drops because someone lacked imagination.
;)
If you remember the sprites from my avatar, know that you're awesome!

agreed... it's all about the gameplay.  Hell we are lucky that we actually have different weapon/equipment graphics.  Most rogues with tiles you get one cloak graphic for every cloak one sword for every sword and so on.  While it's a really cool feature that you do find in some rogues (powder of course comes to mind) normally it's not something you will see until all of the gameplay mechanics have been worked out.  It's a great feature that one day I hope to see in Dweller but not something I think we'll see anytime soon.  That being said if I was given a template and told what color and type of items had to be used n stuff I would take a crack at doing some pixel art.  I guess we would need to figure out like every combination of items that each class could equip and then make a tile for each combination or actually split each class graphic into areas that would change according to equipment... hmmm now I'm trying to think it all through.

ANYWAYS... its a loooooong way off!!
